I don’t think you mentioned the verse that says no one can come to the father unless the spirit draws him. No one can get saved without the work of the Holy Spirit. You can’t just decide to be saved and say a prayer. When you are saved, you become a new creature. That is the evidence. We have to remember that the Holy Spirit is the one who knows who’s going to truly repent, so he draws those people to the father. I have talked to the Lord a lot about heaven and hell. If only a few are saved and many go into destruction, it seems like Jesus is the loser, and that cannot possibly be true. I haven’t figured this out and your scriptures really didn’t convince me otherwise. I just know we have a righteous and holy God and no one is going to hell unless they’ve chosen it, even though they didn’t know they were choosing it. Who would choose hell over heaven. It’s because they’re deceived. That’s the only possible explanation. I have read the Bible many times and there’s only one place that I have found that gives me hope that you can be saved but miss the thousand year millennial reign of Christ and that is at the great white throne judgment in chapter 20 of Revelation. When the dead are judged there are two books, there, the book of life, and the book that the people are judged out of according to the things that they have done. The Bible says whoever’s name is NOT written in the book of life is thrown into the lake of fire. That could only mean some names are written in the book of life. At this point, it seems to me to get to Heaven is just based on works…if the good outweighs the bad. This gives me hope that God will see that more people are in heaven than in hell, but it has to be at this point. These are simply my thoughts and I think my beliefs at this point.

My lesson certainly didn't suggest such a thing. But I hope you will respond again because I am truly curious about why you thought that. Thanks and God bless.

Yes, some of us are I’ve pretty much always felt that God doesn’t want me. I’m too deeply flawed, just wrong, dark, and evil with no redeeming qualities. When from as far back as you can remember not even your parents could love you or tolerate being around you something is very deeply wrong with you.

I don’t think I had even made it out of elementary school before words like evil, narcissistic, manipulative, demanding, tempermental, lazy, and stupid were what most people used to describe me. As I got older the names most used to describe me were ones you can’t say in church or polite society.

It hurts to know but at least it all makes sense now when I look at it from the perspective that I’ve always been bound for hell.

Hi Keith. You're absolutely right. Faith needs our constant attention and our constant improvement. We'll never have enough faith. "Once saved always saved" may be a comforting thought to some people, but it's a false doctrine that will cause you to lose your soul! Why do people think the bible has such passages as Philippians 2:12, which says, "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling"? What would we have to "work out" if we couldn't lose our salvation? And why do the scriptures repeatedly say, "It is the one who endures to the end, who will be saved"? Mathew 24:13. If we couldn't fall, there'd be no need to "endure" would there? Once we're forgiven of our PAST sins, they're always forgiven, but then when we sin again, we need to be forgiven again (and again, and again) That's why "we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Righteous One." 1 John 2:1. And "If we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9. But what if we refuse to confess our sins? Or what if we simply "neglect" to confess them? What if we believe that "once saved always saved"? If we believe that, then we won't realize the NEED to confess our future sins to God and to ask for His forgiveness. And when that happens, we'll be lost once again!

By preaching and teaching "the bible", we tell people what they must DO to BE saved, and what they must DO to STAY saved. That's the message of the bible! You won't find "seducing spirits and doctrines of devils" in the bible (1 Tim 4:1), but you will find warnings against them! "Salvation has appeared to ALL men", Titus 2;11. If only ALL people would take advantage of the salvation offered by our loving God. All we have to do is hear God's word, and then obey what it says. And KEEP obeying until death. "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17. "Let him who thinks he stands, take heed lest he fall" 1 Cor 10:12.

I enjoyed your use of Romans 10:17.
Faith is like a chain that is made up of links of trust and confidence in God. But since no one is born with faith, it must be cultivated and strengthened if it is going to last. That is why Romans tells us first we must “hear” then we will act according to the wishes of Christ.
So “once saved always saved” is a concept many regard as true, but the Bible teaches that faith must constantly be worked on to be kept strong.
