In reply to Alexx Armstrong.

Hi Alexx. Thank you for your comments. I understand what you're saying about people holding repentance in their heart as something needed. But I think we all need to be reminded that the whole purpose of repenting, is so that we STOP sinning. That's why you can't balance your repentance with your sin. That's like an admission that you intend to sin again, thinking I'll simply just repent again. That's what keeps people IN sin! If you have the attitude that all you have to do is repent again, then you haven't repented in the first place, and you remain in sin.

I appreciate your concern about society. But again, the only way we will ever be a "good" society, that is truly concerned about the welfare of it's people, is for the individual people of the society to stop sinning. There is nothing short of the ceasing of sin, and the obedience to God, that will ever help any society. So in reality then, an attitude that "if I sin a lot, I can simply repent a lot" is harmful to society because there's really no intention of stopping one's sin. The poor remain poor, the oppressed are oppressed more, there's no room for honesty because it doesn't profit a person, and we could go on and on. A person will just be resigned to the fact that they ARE going to sin because that's what they want to do, and that is bad for any society! Proverbs 14:34 says, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people." Now those are God's word, not man's. Any misconception that ALLOWS for any degree of sin, is a disgrace to the people of the nation. That's why it's total repentance, or else there's no forgiveness. The only way that this nation, or any other nation, can be a society that benefits it's people, is for the people of the nation, to fully understand and obey the word of God. America was founded on Christian principles. But our country no longer cares about what God says. It's all about "me" and what "I" want. That's a disgraceful society! I pray that we all do our part in turning things around while we still have a choice.

I have a wonderful DVD titled, "The Silencing of God". Everyone who cares about our country needs to see it. Let me know if you'd be interested in viewing it. Thanks again for your comments, and may God bless you and your family.

What an insightful, interestingly analytical article.

I'm always fascinated by the interpretations of God's word. I also feel sometimes misinterpretations work to society's benefit. This article is a good example:

When the idea of balancing repentance and sin encourages those who TEND to sin a lot, and have sinned a lot, to be very "good" and hold repentance in their heart as much as possible, in that case I don't mind them misunderstanding the concept whatsoever.

Of course, when interpretations run to brushing off what is beneficial to society, or rationalizing bad behavior, I feel opposite.
