Hello Trina. Thank you for your interest in this subject. I believe however though, that you’re basing your stance on an impossibility. It is impossible to sing silently. Singing isn’t singing if there is no sound. How could a person sing to another person without making any sound? Consider Ephesians 5:19 which of course I referenced in the article.. “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord” It would be quite impossible to speak to one another in song, without the “speaking” being audible. And I think that you may be missing the point anyway. It’s not a matter of what you or I would prefer, or what we would be “happy” with. It’s solely a matter of obeying the words of God. God tells us to “speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs: and that’s precisely what we must do. May God bless you in the study of His word.

I personally don’t care; I would enjoy WITH music, or WITHOUT, but I don’t think Yahweh is as legalistic as we try to be.

The scriptures you referenced could just as easily be used for not singing ‘OUT LOUD’ and we could be taught to just sing silently, and ‘in our heart’ just as easily, as that’s what the scriptures actually SAY.

I think it’s actually more realistic to think that because the 1st century disciples no longer worshiped in a temple, but in other people’s homes, on the road and wherever people were, they simply didn’t have access to many, if any instruments. There’s certainly NO scripture that condemns using them in worship, and to imply that to do so would be falling away from Yahweh is ….. ! I don’t even know what to say to that; judgemental doesn’t begin. I’ve been to a few church of Christ locations that DOES allow music, and found them to be just as joyful and God-loving as any other church that didn’t.

I personally have no talent at playing any instrument, but I hope you’d agree that ALL talent is God-given talent, and as with anything that’s God-given….
