As for baptizing “in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit”, you have misunderstood what I was saying, or maybe I simply wasn’t making myself clear enough. The phrase “in the name of” means.. “by the authority of”. So then when the scripture tells us to baptize “in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” it is telling us to baptize by the authority of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. And another way of saying that is to baptize by the authority of God. The Father and the Son and the Spirit constitute the entirety of God. The scripture isn’t telling us that we must verbally use three different “names” or “titles” when baptizing, but it’s simply telling us to baptize by the authority of God. If you were baptized “in the name of Jesus” then you were also baptized “in the name of the Father”, and you were also baptized “in the name of the Holy Spirit”. The authority is the same. If we call on the authority of the Father, we are at the same time calling on the authority of the Son and of the Holy spirit as well. And so it’s not a matter of one or the other, (Father, Son or Spirit) but it’s a matter of having the authority from God to baptize people for the forgiveness of their sins.
