In reply to <a href="https://cocbuffalowy.com/2024/07/jacobs-well/#comment-1896">Aimee Williams</a>.

Thanks for your comments and for the encouragement. As for the command to worship in spirit and in truth, it really has nothing to do with "bowing down", nor with worshipping without musical instruments. It's odd how certain connotations like that came to be. Of course to worship in truth, is to worship according to God's word which is "truth". And of course if we worship according to God's word, we will not be using musical instruments in our worship. But as far as any other connection, there simply isn't any. And as for "bowing", the original root meaning of the word translated as "worship" is "to prostrate oneself". However that can just as well mean to prostrate oneself in spirit, as well as physically. But once again, that's simply the root meaning, but it is not necessarily how the word is always used in the scriptures. Yes, sometimes it did refer to taking that position, but many other times, the exact position is not under consideration. But thanks again for your comments, I truly appreciate it. May God bless you and yours.

Thank you for this article, you brought up some really interesting things about Shechem and it's location! I've been researching Shechem and it's significance for quite a while because I wanted to understand the things Jesus was saying to her. I have to teach on this chapter in a few months, so I appreciate the research you did on the location, I will use that!!
On a related note, when Jesus says "worship in spirit and in truth", being raised in the church of Christ, I was always taught that this meant "worship God without musical instruments". I don't disagree with that, but in my research on the Greek/Hebrew word used there, I've come to a possible conclusion that it means "bow down" instead of worship.
Here is a link to my blog article where I wrote some stuff about it
