Our Infinite God

Words to Describe Our Infinite God

There are many words that have been used to describe our Almighty God.  “Almighty” is just one of them.  But other words are “eternal”, which in the case of God, means without beginning and without end.  And “Omniscient”, which means..  all knowing, with absolutely nothing being hidden from His awareness;  And “omnipresent”, which means, in the ultimate sense..  to be present everywhere, with absolutely no boundaries;  And “omnipotent”, which means..  having absolute, unlimited power, with no restrictions.

Consider These Bible Verses..  God’s Omniscience

Isaiah 40, verse 28  says this;  “Do you not know?  Have you not heard?  The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not become weary or tired, His understanding is inscrutable.”   That means God’s understanding, is impossible to comprehend!

Here’s  Psalm 139:1 thru 4;  “O Lord, You have searched me and known me.  You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.  You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.  For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether!”  (there’s not much more that can be said is there?  But the bible does have more to say)

Hebrews 4:13  says;  “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”

And here’s some words of advice, from  1 Chronicles 28, verse 9;  “As for you, my son Solomon, (and this doesn’t only apply to Solomon.  It applies to everyone)  Know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart, and with a willing mind;  For the Lord searches all hearts, and understands all the intent of the thoughts.  If you seek Him, He will be found by you;  But if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.”  Good advice from king David, the man after God’s own heart.

God’s Knowledge is Truly Infinite!  With no limitation whatsoever.

Now..  God’s Omnipresence

Now those verses just talk about the Omniscience of God.  But what about God’s omnipresence?  Here’s some examples, of what the bible says..

Let’s start with  Proverbs 15, verse 3;  “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.”

And  here’s some words from the Lord Himself,  from  Jeremiah 23, verse 24;  “Can a man hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?” says the Lord; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord.”

And what I consider to be a classic verse on the subject,  Psalm 139:7 thru 10;  “Whither shall I go from Thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from Thy presence?  If I ascend up into heaven, Thou art there:  If I make my bed in sheol, (in other words, in hades) behold, Thou art there.  If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;  Even there, shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me.”

I suppose we could sum it up with the words of Job, from  Job 34, verse 21;  “For His eyes are on the ways of man, And He sees ALL his steps.”

God’s Presence is Truly Infinite!  There is NO outside limitation, to where God is, and can be.

And God’s Omnipotence

How about a few verses concerning God’s Omnipotence, His unlimited power.

Let’s start with  Daniel 4:35;  “All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing.  But He does according to His will, in the host of heaven, and among the inhabitants of earth;  And no one ,can ward off His hand, or say to Him;  What have You done?”

Isaiah 14:27  says;  “For the Lord of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it?  And as for His out-stretched hand, who can turn it back?”

And in  Isaiah 40, verse 13  God makes his statement;  “Even from eternity, I am He.  And there is none who can deliver out of My hand.  I act, and who can reverse it?”

Job said, in  Job 42, verse 2;  “I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours, can be thwarted.”

And Jesus said, in  Luke 1:35;  “For nothing, will be impossible with God.”

And then the question is asked in  Acts 26, verse 8;  “Why is it considered incredible among you people, if God should raise the dead?”   Is there anything God can’t do?

Jesus asked the question, in  Luke 5:23;  “Which is easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven you, or to say, Rise up and walk?”  Obviously, for the Lord, neither one is any problem.  He makes the lame to walk, the blind to see, the sick to be restored to health, the dead to rise..   and He forgives us our sins!

Isaiah 26, verses 4 & 5  says;  “Trust in the Lord forever, For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.  For He has brought low, those who dwell on high, in the unassailable city;  He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.”

I don;t know if you’re getting tired of scriptures, but here’s what we’re told in  Hebrews 4, verse 12;  “For the word of God is quick, (that means His word is alive!)  and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder, of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”   And understand please, that the word of God, is God!

Remember what we’re told in  John 1, verse 1;  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God!”   God’s word, is God.  And the power of God’s word, is the power of God.  The “unlimited” power of God, and the “infinite” power of God.

And speaking of the word of God,  Always remember this verse,  Romans 1, verse 16  which says;  “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, (that’s the word of God)  for it is, the power of God unto salvation, to every one that believe, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

God’s limitless power is truly infinite!  There is NO outside force that can even compare.

Our Infinite God

I’ve used the word “Infinite” several times here.  And the reason for that, is because the word “Infinite” really sums up everything that I’ve read, and said about God.  God is “Infinite” in all respects.  That means that God is without limitations, from any outside source, or force.  In every aspect of His being, He is Infinite..  with no limits.

His presence is limitless;  He is everywhere, and all at once;  His knowledge is full, and limitless;  His power is limitless, and no outside force can restrain nor contain it;   God is infinite in every way.  He is absolutely without, outside limitation.

Now you’ll notice something else that I’ve mentioned several times here, and that is the idea of “outside limitations”.   Absolutely no outside force nor influence, can LIMIT God, in any way.  But there is one thing that CAN limit God, and that is God himself.  God can limit Himself, in whatever area He chooses.

And God HAS limited Himself, and He tells us so.  For example, God is limited in what He can say.  That’s right, God is limited in His words, by the fact that God cannot lie!  That’s what we’re plainly told in  Hebrews 6, verse 18;  “..it is impossible for God to lie..”   And the bible says, in  Titus 1, verse 2;   “In hope of eternal life, which God, Who cannot lie, promised before the world began.”   Is that because some outside force “limits” God, so that He can;t lie?  NO, it’s because God limits Himself!

And back in the old testament, it says in  Numbers 23, verse 19;  “God is not a man, that he should lie..”   That’s one of the reasons, straight from the bible, why I won’t refer to God as a “person”.  A man is a person, but God isn’t a person.  God is as far above a person, as the eternal heaven is above the earth.   “God is not a man, that he should lie..”  Let’s not put God is the same category as we’re in.

God says;  “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways, My ways, declares the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways, higher than your ways, and My thoughts, than your thoughts.”  Amen.  (Isaiah 55, verses 8 & 9)  Let’s always make sure that we exalt God, like He should be exalted.

God Limits Himself

And how else has God limited Himself?  Well, we’re told in  James 1:13;  “..for God cannot be tempted by evil, NOR does He Himself tempt anyone.”   Now the fact that God cannot be tempted, is an illustration of His infinite power.  But, the fact that God does not tempt anyone, is an illustration of a limitation, that God has put on Himself.  Just as God has chosen to limit Himself in not lying, He also limits Himself, to never tempting, even one person, ever, to commit a sin.

No outside force can ever limit our infinite God, but God can limit Himself, as He chooses.  Take for instance, the subject of the forgiveness of sins, and salvation.  Could God save us today, in some other way, besides faith, confession, repentance, and baptism?  You know, just like Jesus saved the thief on the cross.  The thief only displayed faith and repentance, and God saved him.  Couldn’t God do the same for us today?

Now you might say, sure He could, if He wanted to. But I say, No He can’t!  And why can’t He?  Because before the foundation of the world, God has chosen to LIMIT Himself!

God cannot save anyone today, in the same manner as He saved so many others, before Jesus died.  God CANNOT save anyone today, outside of the plan instituted, through the new covenant in Christ’s blood!  And WHY can’t He?  Because  God has chosen to LIMIT Himself, in the way that He saves people today.  It’s was God’s own choice, but He HAS limited Himself, to save people only by the methods set forth in the new covenant in Christ’s blood!

And as I said, and as the bible says, this limitation was set, even before the foundation of the world.  It’s was God’s eternal plan.  Ephesians 3:11  says;  “According to the eternal purpose, which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  And He’s been prophesying about it from the beginning pages of the bible.  God said to satan, in  Genesis 3, verse 15;  “I will put enmity between you and the woman, an between your seed, and her seed,  He shall crush thy head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

The last part of that verse was figurative.  Satan figuratively bruised the heel of Jesus Christ, through the crucifixion of Jesus, because of the sin of the world.  But Jesus absolutely crushed the head of satan, through the infinite power of God, and the resurrection of Christ.

And never forget what the bible says in  Acts 2, verses 22 thru 24;   “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you, by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him, in your midst, as you yourselves also know;  Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;  Whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible, that He should be held by it.”  The power of death, is nothing, compared to the power of God!  Don’t fear death.  Don’t fear anything, except God.

God Has Empowered Us !

The bible says in  Romans 8:34;  “Who is he who condemns?  It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”

Verse 35  asks us this question;  “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”   The answer to that question is;  There is NO outside force, that can separate you, from the love of God.  God has put a limit on that!  There is nothing, outside of yourself, that can separate you, from God.  Nothing!  Only you can separate yourself from God!

Verse 37  says;  “..we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

And we’ll finish with  verses 38 & 39;  “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come;  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God has limited the power of sin, and has taken AWAY the fear of death, through Jesus Christ.

By God’s grace, by His infinite kindness, He has granted us the offer of salvation through Jesus Christ.  And God has granted us, complete control, over our own salvation, through this eternal plan..  Hear His word, (Romans 10:17) Believe that Jesus is the Christ, (Mathew 16:16)  Confess your faith in Him, (Mathew 10:32-33)  Repent of all your sins, (Luke 13:3, 5)  And be baptized, for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the promise, of eternal life with God.  (Acts 2:38-39)  And then, remain faithful, even unto death, and receive that crown of life.  (Rev 2:10)

But, if you leave out any one of those things I’ve just mentioned, you’ll be lost.  But you won’t do that;  You WILL believe His word, and you WILL obey the Lord’s commands, and you WILL remain faithful, and you WILL receive the promise, of eternal life, and you WILL enjoy heaven, with our infinite God, for eternity.
